#Al Thaer
Irena Nago
On 22 December, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in Moscow. In the 1990s, he participated in combat operations in Chechnya and Ingushetia, and in 2015, he carried out tasks for the Ministry of Defence in Syria. He was one of the key ‘brains’ behind Russia's war against Ukraine. The general's assassination in Moscow demonstrates the profound failures of the Russian security forces and their loss of control over internal security.
Another ‘mastermind’ of the Russian army has been killed, and Russian propaganda will once again come up with a fake story about another captured settlement in Ukraine.
It is clear that the death of General Sarvarov will officially be blamed on the Ukrainian special services. But we may never know what really happened. Huge amounts of budget money are being stolen during the war, and the principled general could well have been a thorn in the side of many important people in high places. Or perhaps he simply did not want to share with other generals.
